The Motherhood Conspiracy
Virgo eBooks, editor (anthology)

Adult; Poetry; (Market)

The Motherhood Conspiracy explores the evolution of motherhood from inception through the death of the mother figure. It strives to capture the spectrum of experiences and emotions a mother encounters along her life's journey. Included in this selection are poems based upon my own experiences as a mother of a daughter who suffers from schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, and Asperger's syndrome, an Autism spectrum disorder. I wrote this book to help me think, cope with, and document the varying levels of motherhood, including the joys of pregnancy and birth, the devastation of raising a special needs daughter, the bond between mother and child, the loss of self, determination and survival, and finally, the emergence of a new soul, reborn in the aftermath of motherhood.

I have let this collection of poetry settle with me for a few days before writing this review because it is extremely an emotional collection.

As a new mother I thought that I would be happy happy happy and everything would be simple like everyone else makes it seem. I quickly discovered that nothing is simple and nothing is easy and most especially nothing looks like it looks for my friends! There is so much no one talks about or admit regarding motherhood, that it seems almost a crime what Vought has done by writing it all down. What I do know is that it's not a crime- it's a truth that if more people knew, would help.

Vought bravely pulls us into a world where she understands the reality of motherhood and she is able to show us with her excellent poetry the love, the struggle, the heartbreak, the worry, and the fun. It was brave of her to write this and even braver to share her poetry with the world. I'm glad she did.

If you're a mom or love one, you need to read this. I'm glad I did, I feel less alone in this journey.
