I was a little nervous going into this book because I often find myself disappointed by an author's second book in a series. It's kind of "make it or break it" when it comes to whether or not I will continue. J.C. Stockli did NOT disappoint! There were no repetitive scenarios or washed out character plots or the feel of "I knew that was going to happen" at all in The Saving. There are so many unexpected twists and turns throughout this book, things I would've never guessed, especially when it comes to my favorite triangle, Evie, Evan and Lucca. I thought I was all for Evan, but then J.C. blindsided my a** with a little history lesson on how Evan is connected to Evie and why he sweats her so much. This totally made Evan and Lucca equals on the morality scale to me. Also, I no longer feel bad for Nate. You will find out why! I also loved the setting. J.C. did a great job depicting Boston. I work in Boston everyday and she nailed it which makes for better reading :) I can't wait for the next book!! I will definitely continue with this series!
This writer has such a unique and imaginative way with words. Not only did I read this story but I could see, feel, smell and taste every part of it. I could never predict where the story was going, that was a good thing, every page took me to places and situations I could not have predicted. I could feel Evie getting stronger as she fought one addiction (alcoholism ) and getting stronger to fight her greatest addiction of all, needing and loving a sempiternal. You have to read the first book of the series to truly understand this book, but just like The Nothingness you will be left with wanting more!
