The Tail of Max the Mindless Dog, A Children's Book on Mindfulness
Florenza Lee, author
The Tail of Max the Mindless Dog, A Children's Book on Mindfulness is a book about a little puppy named Max. Max's tail is oftentimes hurt, no matter what he does, something happens to cause him pain. This pain is due to no fault of his own. However, believing his tail to be the source of his pain, he sets out to catch it and tie it in a knot. It is only when Max is asked why he runs in circles in the first place that he takes ownership of his actions and calls it a habit. Max's habit of running in circles causes him to receive the nickname of Max, the Mindless Dog and prevents him from enjoying his life. Seeing his friend miss out, Ross introduces Max to a new habit and this new habit is Mindfulness: The Belly Breath, Count of Ten, and Words of Affirmation. Once Max applies this new habit, he is able to replace his old habit and amazing things happen for him. Max is then also able to share his new habit with his friends and once he is old and gray, he pays life forward by sharing it with a little puppy he sees chasing his tail. Max is set in landscape 11 x 8.5 and is 48 pages. It is beautifully illustrated in both Sepia and full color. The beginning of the book is illustrated in Sepia to allow children to visually understand Max's pain. As he is introduced and applies his new found habit of Mindfulness, the colors change. This book not only talks about the subject of Mindfulness it demonstrates it in a way that children and adults are able to immediately put the practice to work.
