I enjoyed this book tremendously. What I did immensely enjoy was the goodness of the characters and feeling of family, the love of Samir for Amuna and all the sweet interactions they had, Samir's bravery and faith, and the descriptions of the environment(s) (marketplace, stables, desert, etc.) I found myself not wanting to put it down

I love historical fiction and because this was set in a time and place and culture I had very little familiarity with I was hesitant at first to read it. But the story quickly grabbed my interest. From the time we first meet the boy, Samir and the baby camel is born, I was hooked on their story and wanted to see where their journey would lead. was not disappointed as they escaped danger, ran in and won camel races (who knew?), and became as close as a boy and his dog. The other characters are rich, too, and I found affection for many of them as this story unfolded. It is a great read for Middle School and up and I recommend it.

I loved this story about a boy and his camel. I was mesmerized by the descriptions in this vividly written piece of historical fiction. The sensory details made me feel as if I'd traveled the story's place and time. The main character's courage and heart are bigger than the desert through which he travels. Highly recommended.
