Thunder Road (Rain Chaser Book 1)
Sierra Dean, author
Tallulah Corentine was destined at birth to serve Seth, the god of the storm. Now, at 27, her job consists of driving cross country doing his earthly bidding. When she inadvertently outrages Manea, goddess of death, Tallulah must race against time to save Seth's son Leo, with only a bad-luck priest at her side.
Reviews
A storm god’s priestess engages in high-speed action and death-defying adventure in this fast-paced urban fantasy, the first in the Rain Chaser series. After Tallulah Corentine steals a treasure from Manea, the goddess of death, on behalf of her patron, storm god Seth, she’s dragged into a contest of wills between the two deities. Manea has threatened to kill Seth’s son, and so Tallulah is dispatched to track him down and take him to a safe haven. She’s given help in the form of Cade, who serves the goddess of bad luck, and the two unlikely allies must race cross-country while avoiding a host of supernatural dangers. Dean (Black Magic Bayou) opens the story with fast cars and adrenaline-pumping excitement, but the pace sometimes lags later on. The worldbuilding and cosmology are complicated and unclear: the gods come from a hodgepodge of belief systems, including Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Hindu, while also fulfilling specific archetypical roles, but how exactly it works is never fully explained. Nonetheless, this is a solidly entertaining tale that grabs the reader right from the start. (BookLife)
