5.0 out of 5 stars Grown ME
This is a very emotional book. It's very sad to read about the abuse she suffered. I was horrified by the way she allowed her boyfriend treat her, thinking that she should of had the sense to leave him. But it's the later chapters where I understand that she couldn't.I could never imagine living through those awful degrading childhood years. There's a lot of good advice near the end of this book which may inspire us to be open and honest with ourselves.

At least one of your parents got it right.
That this helped saved you is wonderful.
A horrific early life overcome with support love and gritted determination to get on.
Thank you for sharing, it wouldn't have been easy but I salute your courage.
5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you for sharing your story
While heartbreaking at times to read, this brave and courageous woman was able to grow and heal from a horrifying childhood. This book is well written, raw, and emotional. The thought of anyone having to go through this childhood is hard to read, and there were a few times I had to put the book down because I just couldn't believe that someone could do these things to their child. Thank you for sharing your story and showing others that you can survive and rise above your past. That you can accomplish what you want in life and to keep having hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's the journey of an intrepid girl who stubbornly believes she can - and will - be a happy woman.
You will cry for this little girl, but you will also marvel at the woman she becomes. Having been programmed to be a living receptacle to absorb negative thoughts, hateful emotions, and brutal actions since birth, she eventually breaks free and de-programs herself. It's the journey of an intrepid girl who stubbornly believes she can - and will - be a happy woman. The honesty and reality of this story is shocking, and sadly, so believable. Throughout the book I could sense the underlying strength of personality of the author and her iron will to survive and heal. Thank you for standing up and telling your story.

5.0 out of 5 stars: what continued to astound me was her amazing sense of acceptance
I had the pleasure of crossing paths with Darlene once, and the experience affected me profoundly. As I learned of her tribulations, what continued to astound me was her amazing sense of acceptance, compassion, and enduring growth. Witnessing such depth of humanity is a blessing for anyone who has experienced trauma.
In this book, we learn of Darlene's quest to know herself beneath a mountain of imposed cruelty and suffering. As she heals, we learn how we may also come to heal.
