Love Between the Sheets

When Jordan walks in on her fiancé with another woman in their bed, her world is quickly turned upside down. She’s just finished up her Masters degree and has landed a tony job at a prestigious private high school as a first year teacher, but when it becomes clear that her fiancé is not willing to give up his relationship with her and becomes obsessive with reclaiming her, she must flee to the mountains of North Carolina and start a new life, or at least until her fiancé decides to move on and leave her alone.

Tom is a small town farmer. He was left the family farm after his parents died and the only living relatives he has are his aunt and uncle, the owners of the local bed and breakfast. Tom isn’t one for relationships, he has far too much going on with ranch life and helping out his aunt when needed, but when Jordan comes to town, living under his aunt and uncle’s roof no less, he is immediately drawn to her. Of course the first time he meets her he had accidentally walked in on her taking a bath, but that is of little consequence. He sees a beautiful woman and decides to pursue her, but will Jordan ever trust another man? Why should she get involved if living in the small town is just a temporary thing anyway?

Jordan has found a position teaching at the local community college and on her first day of classes, the hot handyman who walked in on her bath is in her class. Chance meetings stoke the fire between the two and when prompted by their friends to give a relationship a chance, they finally relent, and the relationship is molten. The attraction between the two is palpable, but is that attraction going to be enough to keep them together?

Watching Fireflies is a sweet, contemporary romance with endearing characters and a, for the most part, light storyline. I love small town romances and this one is no exception. There is a hint of suspense in the storyline with the story arc of the fiancé whom is trying to find Jordan, but for the most part this is a story of finding love when you least expect it. The storyline was a little bit predictable, however the strength of the characters, namely the swoon-worthiness of Tom made it a great read.

This is the first in the series, however each book can be read as a standalone. Ms. Ford has included the supporting characters in a way that they will endear themselves to you to want to read subsequent books in which they are featured. Even the secondary characters are well written and central to the plot, especially in the case of Ellie, Jordan’s new best friend and confidante. I definitely look forward to jumping into the next book, Dragonfly Awakening, which is available now.
