J. V. Whittenburg
Author
We Fly Away
They were seven brothers and two sisters, raised in sharecropper poverty. They escaped crop-destroying sandstorms - taking different paths and carving out separate niches as their family saga unfolded. It is a remarkable story of the legacy of a man who was poorly equipped to be a father, a beautiful, proud, undaunted mother, her seven “suns” and two daughters and their uniquely individual responses to the life and circumstances into which they were born. Theirs is a story of heart-rending tragedy, exceptional resilience, unbridled rebellion and the intrigue that comes with highflying drug smuggling and the money laundering and tax evasion that accompanies such an enterprise. The high drama of a grand jury indictment and an extended Las Vegas trial unveiled the early trauma, which held the narrator captive for a lifetime, and lies at the heart of the story

The reader easily gets brought into the writer’s life journey. We meet the family of J.V. Whittenburg and “travel” with the author thru many years of his familial relationships. We “see” some of the landscapes of America. We “hear” the sounds of a busy house. We can “touch” the cotton plants. There are times to rejoice, times of suspense and times of deep hurt.
