A horrific accident injures Ryan so bad that he doubts his abilities to provided for his family. As a result, he divorces his wife and goes into hiding. Emma must do all she can to provide for her family, even leaving the hometown they know and love. Eight years later, she and the kids are given the opportunity to return and reunite with old friends. A budding friendship with the local handyman, who hides behind his disfiguring scars like a shield, has Emma facing the demons of her past.
