In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Alabaster Box Media Group continues to reach out to women’s groups, churches, and colleges to spread the word about domestic abuse during October. Recently, domestic violence has catapulted to the forefront of headline news and discussions within classrooms, conference rooms, and locker rooms, now that domestic violence has been exposed in the world of sports.
October 2014 Events - On October 10 and 11, Melanie will be a featured seminar speaker at the Break Every Chain Women’s Conference held at Christ Cathedral Church, 3350 Allegheny Avenue, Columbus, Ohio. The conference is hosted by Pastor Mary Ellen Crutcher, Senior Pastor of Kingdom Life Church, and is exclusively for women and teenage girls. Friday, October 10 begins at 7:00 PM and Saturday seminars begin at 9:30 AM. Iris will feature When the Devil is Beating His Wife at the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Central Ohio Chapter’s My Sister’s Keeper Mind, Body and Wellness Conference on October 11. The conference will feature Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, State Senator Nina Turner, and actress Lynn Whitfield. Iris and Melanie will both speak at an event sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Rho Chapter at the University of Southern Indiana on October 22.
Co-author Iris Cooper is the owner of JustAskIris! an entrepreneurial consulting firm. Iris is one of the founders of Glory Foods, Inc., a national food marketing company, and is an adjunct professor with Franklin University. Iris obtained a B.A. degree in journalism and an MBA in marketing from Indiana University. She is currently writing her doctoral study for the DBA program at Walden University on small business sustainability.
Melanie Houston is president and founder of Alabaster Box Media Group. Houston is also the founder of Vision Resources, Inc., a management consulting firm for profit and nonprofit businesses and organizations. Melanie earned a B.A. degree in art therapy from Capital University. She received an M.A. degree from The Ohio State University, with a major in labor and human resource management.
