White Wi
Bill Reed, author
Unashamedly, here are sketches of some of the comical characters extracted out of just some of the stories roaming throughout the pages of the Lankan 1001 Nights… characters who do so with heart-and-souls you’d be mad to believe knowing that you’d be mad if you didn’t. They have chancily emerged from the give-or-take 1001-night’n’day yabbers, yarns, shaggy-dogs and you’ve-got-to-be-kidding whoppers that would swirl around you, if you too were chained down in, say, some royal harem with odder points-of-view and better torture techniques than most. Maybe even, like the Talls story teller-minstrel you have to trot out real-stretchers for your supper – always against the wind from people laughing in your face -- if only to delay the time when your mouth is brought anywhere near that supper. Or maybe you might be one of the royal listeners there, having to swallow the oh-pull-this-one whoppers about the all-time record holder for the number of times kidnapped… by whom we mean the ass-headed Australian shonky named Wi and his for-hire weird peradventures. Plus, there are the seeming innumerable odd-balls who can’t help how they burp around Dominic’s Eatery in Lanka. As a cast of characters sketched here, these personalities might not be booked on digital magic carpets like the original Princess Scheherazade or Sinbad the Sailor and so forth, but as flights of fancy they actually might tickle your toes to curl up a bit. Of course, they’d deny it, probably. Or improbably.
