Amy Gibbs, RN, and the crew of her MedAir chopper go down in a storm, but she is rescued from the wreckage by a woman who appears to be living in hiding with her disabled daughter. But hiding from whom?

Sinead O'Malley and Ruth are indeed on the run, but not from an abuser. The State of Massachusetts' DCF took Ruth from her family over a dispute between two sets of doctors and Ruth's health has deteriorated. Sinead could no longer sit back and watch her daughter die. She removed Ruth from the state rehab facility and fled.

When Amy discovers the nationwide AMBER Alert for the pair, and learns the details of Ruth's case, she has a choice to make: follow the law, or help the woman who saved her life. For both, however, the final outcome is complicated by the zealous, and discredited, DCF social worker who is out to save face and get her job back.
