A Compromising Position
Good intentions and a strong moral compass never kept anyone from a compromising position. Newly appointed Campaign Manager, Catherine Lawrence has a plan, and it definitely doesn’t include falling in love with the handsome, free-spirited, blue-eyed, surfer from Australia who just moved in next door. Jake Ryan came to Florida with every intention of surfing, enjoying life, and finding himself. What he didn’t plan on was getting entangled with the beautiful, green-eyed woman next door. And yet, the best-laid plans and all. Love can change everything, including a stubborn heart. The chemistry and sparks between Catherine and Jake are red hot, not to mention the natural attraction between these two polar opposites will pull them in two different directions. To achieve their happily ever after, something will have to give, and someone will have to make the ultimate sacrifice for love.
Reviews
Wigginton (Olivia’s Promise) introducesCatherine Lawrence, the newly appointed campaign manager for Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate, Russell Tillman, as she steps into her new role only a few weeks before the election. Following the deaths of her Grandma Alice and father, Catherine has lived a regimented life, closely abiding by a fifteen-year plan she developed with Alice upon her deathbed. Now that she’s made her plan a reality, Catherine finds something missing in her life, but with a busy lifestyle, Tillman down in the polls, and her own political ambitions on the horizon, there is no time for distractions or a relationship. That all changes when handsome blue-eyed surfer Jake Ryan moves into the condo next door. A slow burn whirlwind romance unfurls that leaves Catherine questioning the careful roadmap she’s followed for her life thus far.

Anxious about her new job responsibilities, Catherine struggles with the dynamic of her new relationship with Jake and knowingly gives him a back seat to her career. However, as the story progresses Jake’s sexy, surfer-boy appeal and easy-going nature steer Catherine in another direction. Although romance is central to the plot, after Catherine finds candidate Tillman in a “compromising position” with lobbyist Patricia Grant, a woman she doesn’t trust and workplace “arch nemesis," the story treads into suspense territory. Intermittent chapters alternating omniscient perspectives between Catherine, Jake, and at times Patricia, Russell and other key characters add layers of depth and angst that fans or romantic suspense will enjoy.

Set against the backdrop of Florida beaches and politics, this story is a page-turner; however, it’s a slow burn with moderate heat, filled with plot twists and tension-building scenes. Fans of romantic suspense and contemporary beach reads alike will find this enjoyable. Wigginton has created a story where two very different characters with very different lives come together in a beautifully written happy-ever-after.

Takeaway: Fans of contemporary romance and romantic suspense will love this story of opposites falling in love.

Great for fans of: Jenny Hale’s The Beach House, Cecelia Scott’s Cocoa Beach Boardwalk.

A Compromising Position by Diane Merrill Wiggington

A very enjoyable read by one of my favorite authors. Romance, mystery, and adventure in a moving story. A realistic situation involving a political campaign, hard work, and long hours.  A lifelong goal was decided upon since childhood with help from her grandmother. Now she has to face a decision that will change her whole life. Gripping.

Compromising Position, by Diane Merrill Wigginton, author of award winning romance and psychological thrillers, is gracing the world with yet another romance novel coming out soon. In this story, Catherine, a rising star as a political promoter, finds herself not only challenged to get her candidate to cross the finish line as the winner, but behind her back, others, jealous of her position, are secretly working to sabotage her very success. Meanwhile, a man, Jake Ryan, appears on the scene. Ryan is the diametric opposite of Catherine. While she is a workaholic, plans her days down to the smallest detail, runs by the clock, and is consumed by her career, Jake, an Aussi, is a surfer, casual and flippant about most everything, and that very insouciant approach to life and the fact that their paths keep crossing…well, no spoilers. This is a classic romance with all the bells and whistles, and once again, Wigginton shows her skill at creating another world to capture the reader.

REVIEW OF “A COMPROMISING POSITION”

by Diane Merrill Wigginton

Focused and almost obsessively organized, attractive Catherine Lawrence has her future clearly mapped out in the political arena. She didn’t bargain for vengeful co-workers and a distracting Australian neighbor whose ambition in life seems to be surfing the biggest wave he can find. But in the end, Catherine’s greatest challenge is internal; what does success really look like, and has she the strength to grasp it?

I enjoyed reading “A Compromising Position”. This story immerses one in the struggle between career and romantic passion with its easily relatable heroine and engaging plot. Spoiler - there’s a sweet double twist at the end! I’d give it a 5-star rating.
