A Queen's Pride
N. D. Jones, author
For centuries, humans descended on shifters' lands, killing and claiming. They devoured all in their path--gold, God, and glory their battle cries. From the flames of destruction on the Zafeo continent, two nations emerged--the human territory of Vumaris and the feline nation of Shona. No more wars. No more bloodshed. Eight decades of peace. For eighteen-year-old Asha, traveling to Vumaris with her parents, lion alphas of the Kingdom of Shona, should've been a simple matter. Recommitting to an eighty-year-old peace treaty between their countries should've been easier still. Yet, greed and corruption know no boundaries of time and place. So when a group of mercenaries converges on Sanctum Hotel, hellbent on kidnapping Asha and assassinating her parents, her family trip turns into the bloodiest night of her life. Will Asha lose those closest to her heart--her parents and Ekon, a young bodyguard she loves? If so, will she forgive her enemies or seek divine retribution? Only time will tell, and it's running out for Princess Asha of the Kingdom of Shona.
Reviews
Profound love and gory revenge drive the gripping first urban fantasy in Jones’s Feline Nation series (after the Death and Destiny trilogy). When lion-shifter Asha Leothos’s parents are murdered during a failed attempt to save her from being kidnapped by the humans of Vumaris, she becomes the next sekhem, or alpha lioness, of the feline kingdom of Shona at just 18. Her people negotiate her release, but once free, Asha remains literally haunted by her parents’ ghosts, and unable to sleep from nightmares of abuse at the hands of her kidnappers. She hatches a plan to invoke Sekhmet, goddess of war, destruction, plagues, and healing, to punish her human torturers. Meanwhile, her friends in the Royal Shieldmane Guard—General Volt, their leader; Mafdet, Asha’s godmother; and Ekon, Asha’s love interest—work together to pull her back from her single-minded focus on revenge and to prevent her bloodlust from consuming her. The result is a powerful roller coaster of emotions that still makes time to probe themes of discrimination and entitlement. Readers will be hooked.(Self-published)

After I started reading the first couple of chapters I thought this was going to be a YA novel. I stopped reading for a couple of days because of the immature behavior of the heroine. Curiosity had me picking the book up again. Chapter 3 had me riveted to story. I couldn't put the book down. I finished around 3:30 am. This turned out to be a coming of age story. Because of bigotry and greed Asha had too grow up fast. This was a paranormal fiction but Ms Jones wrote it in a way that you could easily picture it happening. This story had action, humor, romance and suspense. I'm looking forward to book 2.

All 5 stars. Great storyline. Nothing grammatically which threw me off while reading. All the characters were well developed and thought out. I would recommend to any sci-fi enthusiast. Loved the story. It wasn't just the revenge; it was a well thought out and planned revenge. Thankfully for the HEA.
