The bookstore Chapter Indigo (the Canadian equivalent of Barnes and Noble) has agreed to carry Rumpa and the Snufflewort in their store in Victoria, BC. They are also offering weekend author signing events.
Author Jean Paetkau and her 12-year-old illustrator daughter were interviewed by host Sheryl Mackay on the provincial weekend show North by Northwest. Jean and her daughter shared how the family were inspired to write the novel after visiting a popular garden in Victoria. The response to the piece was very strong with two independent bookstores agreeing to sell the book in the 24 hours after the interview and sales going back into the bestseller ranking on Amazon. The interview starts about 6 minutes into the URL link of the episode.
The Victoria Times Colonist, The Vancouver Sun and the Calgary Herald all ran high profile stories about the book Rumpa and the Snufflewort. This had a dramatic effect on sales including making Rumpa and the Snufflewort a best seller on Amazon Canada in the highly competitive Action and Adventure category. Rumpa and the Snufflewort was selling alongside Harry Potter and Dog Man.
During the last weekend of August 2021, Rumpa and the Snufflewort became a bestseller on Amazon Canada in the highly competitive category of kids' action and adventure. For four days we were selling next to Harry Potter and Dog Man. We were the only-self-published book on the top 100 list.
After a highly successful interview on CBC Radio, two independent Vancouver Island bookstores agreed to carry copies of Rumpa and the Snufflewort. Lazy Susan's in Victoria and Volume One in Victoria bought many copies of the book in response to customer demand. This comes on top of an Indigo Chapters store in Victoria also agreeing to carry the book.
