This month, Michelle Argyle at Melissa Williams Design reimagines the cover of Starting Your Book by Naomi Rose. To submit a book for a free cover redesign, email us at booklifeeditor@booklife.com.

Design Note #1: Using contrasting fonts can help set a mood for a cover. Notice the use of a softer, more feminine script font contrasted with a bold serif font for the word book.

Design Note #2: Light colors can be problematic in helping a cover stand out, so adding some purple elements helps alleviate this problem.

Design Note #3: I used a sketch created by the author, but added the floral elements to illustrate the idea of listening to what’s inside you.

Design Note #4: Adding a texture to the background helps the white not seem as stark.
