This month, Michelle Argyle at Melissa Williams Design reimagines the cover of Many a Sudden Change by indie author Tricia Zacher. To submit a book for a free cover redesign, email us at booklifeeditor@booklife.com.

Design Note 1: The blue tones in the original cover feel uninviting for a book about faith and family, so I found an image with warm tones instead.

Design Note 2: While the hands on the original cover are sweet, they feel separated from the rest of the cover. Instead, I chose an image of a father and son holding hands to convey the same feeling.

Design Note 3: The author wanted something to show the father’s involvement in the military, but sometimes too many elements only clutter the design. It’s good to keep a cover simple.

Design Note 4: The letter A could fit in three places on the cover, but to give a better sense of balance, I decided to keep it on its own line with unobtrusive decorations to each side.
