The semifinalists were chosen from five genres by the editorial staffs of Publishers Weekly and BookLife.Twenty-five books from five genres advanced to the semifinal round of the 2019 BookLife Prize. Selected by the editorial staffs of Publishers Weekly and Booklife, the semifinalists are as follows:
