• EPIC, the Electronic Publishing Internet Coalition, has chosen The SHIVA Syndrome as a 2016 eBook finalist. ____________________________________________________________ A clinical psychologist and parapsychologist with a background in forensic psychology, Alan Joshua (pen name) has a longstanding fascination with the mysteries of human experience, such as creativity and paranormal abilities. Joshua has published numerous journal articles dealing with conventional psychology. Using hypnosis, he has probed alleged reincarnational memories and published an intensive analysis of the mental processes used by “psychic” or spiritual healers.
Joshua is a science fiction fan and has been influenced by such writers as Asimov, Bradbury, Crichton, Heinlein, Serling, Dick, and Paddy Chayefsky (Altered States). An avid Star Trek fan, he contradicts Gene Roddenberry, believing that the potentials of human consciousness, not space, are “the final frontier.”
The Shiva Syndrome, his debut fiction novel, is a science fiction/paranormal mystery and thriller. In it, he draws upon his studies and personal experiences with healers, intuitives, and “psychic” sensitives.
REVIEWS
- The Portland Book Review (4.5 stars) “What a fascinating book! Having the right amount of adventure and romance, this crisscrossing genre tale isn’t just a good read, but may also look great on a big screen.
- The Midwest Book Review (5 stars) At first glance, one would think this to be either a sci-fi saga or perhaps a thriller: technically, that’s correct; but it’s so much more. Its focus on untapped human potential gone awry in a deadly experiment also lends to its enjoyment by new age readers or any interested in the paranormal – and let’s not forget the reader who enjoys political intrigue and a bit of spiritual reflection in their reading. Highly recommended.
- The Self-Publishing Review (5 stars) Any attempt to describe the book in a single statement is difficult, but the book mixes uncommon palettes and manages a masterpiece with it. If The Andromeda Strain was analyzed in four dimensions, The SHIVA Syndrome might be the result. It is a surprising, suspenseful, and utterly superb read from start to end.
- The New Consciousness Review (5 stars) The SHIVA Syndrome is a thrilling read, and I could definitely imagine this in the theater. Would love to see a part two! Highly recommended. • Reader Views I was absolutely captivated from beginning to end, and by captivated, I mean held hostage, as my life was literally put on hold until I finished reading. Not a fast or easy read by any stretch of the imagination, I’m so glad it was a rainy weekend or I might have felt guilty – maybe. Alan Joshua breathes new life into the sometimes predictable genre of science-fiction. Actually, he doesn’t stop there as the story seems to span across many genres, from sci-fi to fantasy to mystery/thriller, action and adventure, and a small (minute) dose of romance for good measure! I highly recommend “The SHIVA Syndrome” by Alan Joshua for enthusiasts of all genres, as there is definitely something for everyone in this fascinating story!
- Readers’ Favorite In The SHIVA Syndrome by Alan Joshua, we are thrown right into the action with the prologue. An engrossing read! Alan Joshua cleverly interweaves various genres. The story is extremely well written, well researched, and well-paced, and will keep you turning pages till your eyes close of their own accord. A wonderful read that I would love to see being made into a movie!
