Alice McVeigh has been published in contemporary fiction by Orion Publishing, in speculative thrillers (using pen name Spaulding Taylor) by UK's Unbound, and in historical fiction with Warleigh Hall Press.
She was born in South Korea of American diplomatic parents, and lived in Asia until she was 13, when the family returned to Washington D.C. After achieving a B.Mus. with distinction in cello performance at the internationally acclaimed Jacobs School of Music, she came to London to study with the stunningly gifted Jacqueline du Pré. Since then she has performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic and the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique all over Europe, America and Asia.
Her first two contemporary novels – While the Music Lasts and Ghost Music – were published by Orion Publishing/Hachette in the late 90s, and her first play (Beating Time) put on at the Lewisham Theatre. (The film rights to her first book were also sold, to Channel 4, but Mozart in the Jungle got there first!). She has recently re-written both books, which are available only on https://www.alicemcveigh.com.
Last Star Standing was published in February 2021, and won a Kirkus Star, was runner-up in the Independent Press Awards and placed third in the Incipere Book Awards. A Publishers Weekly "Editors Pick", and recent winner of a bronze IPPY and gold in the Global book awards, Harriet was also a finalist in CIBA's Chatelaine Award and the International Book Awards.
