Alvaro was born in Havana, Cuba. Raised mostly by his staunch Catholic grandmother as his father worked in one of Castro's work camps and mother worked to feed the family. In 1973 when Vega was 13 years old, the family left Cuba for the United States.
The culture shock and anxiety at that tender age in a new country, he found a way to ease his anxieties by putting pen to paper. He wrote poems...
Throughout the years that followed while working and raising a family, Alvaro massed quite a catalog of poems. It was then he was comfortable letting people read his work. He was surprised at the feedback. Mostly positive and encouraging.
Alvaro decided to send a few of his poems to author Eddie Vega (no relation) EddieVega.com..to get an honest critique.
Eddie Vega wrote: "What interesting poems! I hear the music and the feeling of Lorca with a touch of Neruda in your poem, Una Noche Cualquiera. Truly beautiful!
With that and the encouragement of family and friends, Alvaro decided to publish. In February 2016, "Ruins of Redemption" Poetry in English and Spanish was launched.
"This book, I hope, tells a story about how I see life and how events have shaped the way in which I embrace it. Because I am Cuban-born, it is impossible not to feel in certain ways about politics or religion."
