Butch Freedman was born and raised in Philadelphia, and still considers it his home town, even though he hasn't lived there in over fifty years. He still roots for the Eagles. Now he lives, mostly contentedly and gratefully, on the Oregon Coast with his wife Beverly. Butch has two adult daughters, Jessica and Gabrielle who he loves dearly. A big part of his life has been devoted to writing and teaching. He has published two previous books (Fancypants: an autobiographical novel and a collection of personal essays, Beach Bum: A Life in Pieces). He has also published many short stories, essays, and memoir pieces. Butch says that "Writing is both deeply satisfying and occasionally frustrating." In his later years, he has become a committed surfer. "When I'm healthy," he will tell you, "you'll find me out in the waves grinning like a kid again."
