Carmen Peone has lived in Northeast Washington, on the Colville Indian Reservation, since 1988. Peone studied with tribal elder Marguerite Ensminger for three years learning the Arrow Lakes Language and various cultural tradition. Family and community members also have had a hand in Peone's eductation through the years. Mrs. Ensminger taught Peone about the survival of a very special people: The Sinyekst or Arrow Lakes band of the Colville Confederated Tribes of Indians. After years of gathering knowledge of tribal customs, language and legends, did Peone decide to place such knowledge in the form of fiction for Young Adults.
