Chuck Miceli is Past-president of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Connecticut (OLLI at UCONN) and former Editorial Board Chairman for Voices and Visions, the organization's annual literary and arts review journal.
His text, Fire Behind Bars, (co-authored with Alton P. Golden), was the first book in the U.S. to deal with deadly fires in secure institutions and put him on the national stage as a speaker and consultant. His criminal justice experience includes being a work supervisor at a reformatory, a training officer in jails and a maximum-security prison, and a Resource Center Coordinator for the National Institute of Corrections. He was Chief of Curriculum for the Connecticut Justice Academy and he has worked as a consultant to the American Correctional Association, the National Juvenile Court Services Association, and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. He has taught extensively throughout the country on a wide range of criminal justice topics.
Chuck Miceli's articles have appeared in professional journals and magazines and his poetry and short stories have been printed in literary journals. His poem, “Miner’s Lament” won third prize in the 2015 worldwide Writer’s Digest competition. He was an occasional columnist for WTNH's weather information website: WXedge.com. The site featured his articles on major weather events like the Blizzards of 1969 and 1978, and the "Long Island Express" hurricane of 1938. He is also a contributor to StoryChip.com, recently rebranded to HistoryChip.com.
Chuck's background in criminal and juvenile justice played significantly in the development of his first novel, Amanda's Room, a paranormal thriller published in 2012. His current project, Wounded Angel’s, is a general fiction literary novel which will be published by Elm Hill, a division of Harper Collins Christian Publications. It will be available on-line and in bookstores on January 14, 2020.
Chuck spends much of his free time involved in civic, social, and religious volunteer work. He was previously a Lieutenant in a Community Emergency Response Team was past Board of Directors Chairman for Every Dollar Feeds Kids, a non-profit organization that raises money to feed hungry children in the US and abroad.
Miceli was born the son of a coal miner in Pittston Pennsylvania. He grew up one of eleven children in the tough East New York section of Brooklyn New York, served as Staff Sergeant and rifle platoon leader in the Marine Corps Reserves, and now lives with his wife, Judy, in suburban Connecticut.
