Up until the mid-eighties Dave Thomson lived in northern England, witnessing first-hand the dismantling of its industrial base under Thatcherism. This social upheaval was soundtracked by post-punk experimentation as it bubbled to the surface of these northern towns and cities. He ran an independent record shop in the market town of Retford and DJ'd between acts at the legendary Retford Porterhouse. He moved to the capital some years later and now considers London his home, whilst the music he enjoys and his political outlook are heavily influenced by my formative years in the north. Writing has always been a big part of his life; but this book is the first thing he's released into the world; an attempt to distil the politics and music of his past and present into a single narrative.
