There he witnessed many dangers that are common to the inner city. His dream was to use basketball as a tool to make it out of the hood and one day play in the NBA. With the help of his Grandmother, Juanita Ross, and his mom Jacqueline Calip, who encouraged DC to believe in his dreams and use his special gifts to make his dreams come true, DC went on to be a local basketball star at Flint Northern High School, before moving onto University of Michigan and winning the 1989 NCAA National Basketball Championship.
