Recent Goodreads Review: "When I saw The Beech Tree sitting on the kitchen counter, I thought it was just another of my wife's chick lit books. Boy, was I wrong. It was too cold and rainy to go out to a book shop so I picked it up. I found myself turning pages, Then Chapter 4 hit me right between the eyes and I found myself choking back tears. I laughed aloud, I cried, I darned near stood up and cheered. If you miss this book, you will miss one of the finest pieces of literature written in the past two decades."
The Beech Tree was real. It was known by tourists and townspeople alike as the place to carve their initials in the tree. In 1998, it was destroyed in a freak storm. What ever happened to those people, the ones who carved their initials in the tree? What were their lives like? Did we ever meet and feel a deja vu moment, wondering if we had meet somehwere before? The Beech Tree chronicles the (fictional) lives of a few of those who shared their lives, their loves, their hopes and dreams beneath the tree's leafy, green canopy.
The Beech Tree is gritty, sometimes hard. There are no superheroes or divine intervention. It is about real people and the real life challenges we all face. The Beech Tree's characters experience love, loss, the horrors of war, the victory of hope, the evolution of civil rights and acceptance of diversity.
