Donald L. Brake was married in June 1960 to Carol Hilton, and together, they have three children and five grandchildren. They are currently retired living in Lewisville, Texas, where their life revolves around shopping, writing, golfing, collecting rare Bibles, and spoiling grandchildren.
Dr. Donald L. Brake’s academic and professional peers consider him an authority on the history of the Bible and various versions in both Greek and English from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries. He has been an avid collector of rare Bibles and New Testaments for nearly forty years. Historians recognize his collection as one of the finest private collections in America.
Dr. Brake has written and consulted with collectors and collections extensively. He has written fifteen articles on the history of the English Bible for the St. Louis Metro Voice, published the Wycliffe New Testament, contributed a chapter on “Preservation of Scripture” in Counterfeit or Genuine. Baker Books published his book A Visual History of the English Bible 2008 (a 2009 ECPA Christian Book 4993 Award finalist), A Visual History of the King James Bible, 2011 and an Abingdon Press published his major article, “Versions, English” in The Interpreters Dictionary of the Bible volume 5, 2009. A Royal Monument of English Literature, Credo Publications, 2011 contained the first worldwide census of KJV “He” Bibles.
Dr. Brake taught and led conferences on the subjects of the biblical canon, history of the English Bible, New Testament textual criticism and the life of Christ. He speaks in churches on the twenty-first century value of the King James Version and the reliability of

contemporary translations and their place in exegesis and life-changing sanctification.
Academic and professional credentials
Dr. Brake studied two years at Moody Bible Institute, 196264 and received his BA from Cedarville University and Th.M. and Ph.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary 1970 and 1977 respectively. He served as a missionary, SIM, Ethiopia 1970-77; was president, Jerusalem University College, 1990-93; pastored the North Carrollton Baptist Church, 1996-99; and was professor at Multnomah Bible College and Seminary, 1977-90 and 1999-2009; and retired as dean emeritus Multnomah Biblical Seminary. He cofounded the Living Word National Bible Museum.
