I was born in Jamaica in the parish of Manchester in 1965. The chief town is Mandeville. In Mandeville, there was the parish library where my aunt Clemis worked. She gave me a library card. I was ten years old. It gave me access to many kinds of books. I read history books, sports books, and novels. In my teens, I started reading the Bible. I took a keen interest in the Parables. I wanted to write stories like parables. When I was 14, I enrolled in a vocational program. I studied basic electrical wiring. At 15 years old I stop attending a vocational school. I worked in areas of farming and construction, occasionally. At eighteen I migrated to Miami, Fl. I attended Miami Dade Community College.
After one year, I enlisted in the U.S. Army. The slogan, “If you can make it here, we’ll guarantee you can make it anywhere.” I was trained at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. I was sent to Baumholder, Germany. I was a member of the 8th Infantry Division. After a little over three years of active duty. I returned to Miami. I joined the Army Reserve and startled Miami Dade Community College again. I became a paramedic then I became a registered nurse. I went to Rapid City, South Dakota, to work for almost a year. Then I went to Los Angeles, California. In California, most of my friends were musicians and filmmakers. They were enthused to write a good song or tell a wonderful story. I started writing songs and short stories. This kind of work had me up many nights.
I took the material to a nurse that was an English schoolteacher. She said, “your stories are good, but your sentence structures need work. You must find your prose. “After approximately six months she said I was ready. My stories come from everywhere, thoughts, daily observations, and dreams. My inspiration comes from looking at differences and aspects of circumstances. People’s vision. God’s beauty in living things. The human awesomeness. I am a low-ranking student of the literary arts. I love a good story. I Give thanks to God. I appreciate good work and good people, especially my agent: James M. Perez.
