Dr. Frank Rybicki joined the Francis Marion University Mass Communication Department in the fall of 2012. As anticipated, his digital media background continues to complement the needs of a growing Broadcast Journalism track where students do more than fine-tune news writing skills. They must also understand how to edit and produce their assignments for video.
Dr. Rybicki's teaching career began in the media capital of Los Angeles. He believes he received a state-of-the-art education within the ultimate environment. This soon led to positions at the National Association of Television Program Executives, Nielsen Media Research, and ABC Radio as the flagship producer for the Dodger Radio network and its 20 affiliates.
His graduate work was completed at the University of Southern California Annenberg School of Communication. He would later return home to Pittsburgh and earn his doctorate in Rhetoric from Duquesne University.
Dr. Rybicki's research interests consider the hidden obstacles encountered in the development, installation, and assessment of instructional digital technology used by higher education. He firmly believes that teaching methods developed for blackboards and a piece of chalk are rather obsolete. He claims that digital generation learners must be taught differently because they learn differently.
When Dr. Rybicki is not agonizing over the impending demise of his first love, radio, the tormented filmmaker at heart anticipates completing his second historical documentary with free help from his talented students.
