Guy A. Sims, a native of Philadelphia, Pa, is an avid writer, authoring the groundbreaking and critically acclaimed comic book series, Brotherman. He authored the first books on Kwanzaa, The Kwanzaa Handbook and The Kwanzaa Kids Learn the Seven Principles (the first children’s book on Kwanzaa). He is the recipient of Best Story for Brotherman: Revelation graphic novel from the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention; Recognition from the Junior Library Guild Selection for the graphic novel adaptation of Walter Dean Myers’ novel, Monster; Author of the Brotherman: Dictator of Discipline comic book series; Writer of the Brotherman graphic novel, Revelation; Author of The Cold Hard Cases of Duke Denim series; and Author of the novel, Living Just A Little.
In 2017, inclusion of artwork and memorabilia from the Brotherman Comics series into the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC), located in Washington, DC. The historical and unique materials are to be included in its Archive collection for use in research and exhibitions. His works are also archived at the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History in Atlanta, GA and his personal collection at the Langston Hughes Memorial Library of the Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.
Guy Sims is a 1983 graduate of Lincoln University with a degree in Human Services. He has earned a Masters of Education Educational Leadership from Beaver College (now Arcadia University), a Masters of Arts in Human Behavior from National University, a certificate in Higher Education Law and Policy from Stetson University & the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education, and an Educational Doctorate in Higher Education from the University of Northern Iowa.
