Helen Khan didn’t start writing until retiring, but age has not stopped her, as she already has several more books in mind, even before her first one goes to press. Shrouds Over Eden is her first book but not her last. Her life as a counsellor and degrees in social science and international education find their way into her writing, as does her experiences and life in a South Asian country. It is this life and the struggles for survival and respect that she sees people facing everyday that are the focus of her writings, whether it is prose or poetry.
She grew-up in Northern Canada on a farm that had more horses than cattle. She later moved to the city to attend the University of Alberta, also working there until retirement. Her family consists of sons, daughters, daughters-of-the-heart and grandchildren and whoever else comes their way. The door is always open.
She and her husband live in a small farmhouse surrounded by trees and gardens, a perfect sanctuary for songbirds melodiously bringing in the morning sun or bidding it goodnight. She has two dogs, cats, a peacock and several other feathered friends. Her favourite time of the day is playing word puzzles with her husband on their veranda.
