Ira Nayman is a species of small South American lizard that is known for its abililty to eat 17 flies per second and beat much larger lizards at Texas Hold'em. The Ira Nayman sheds its skin every second summer, at which point it looks uncannily like Mammy Yokum.
When startled, the Ira Nayman uses its chameleon-like abilities to become a Canadian humour writer. In this guise, the Ira Nayman has created Les Pages aux Folles, a Web site of topical satire and surreal cartoons. Out of Les Pages aux Folles was born The Alternate Reality News Service, which sends reporters into other dimensions and has them report back on what they find there. It has been described as "a science fiction version of The Onion." The eighth self-published book in this series, ARNS and the Man, is nearing completion.
Out of ARNS was born the Transdimensional Authority, an organization which monitors and polilces travel between dimensions. If you're somewhere you don't belong, doing something you shouldn't be doing, they're the ones who find you, stop you and take you home. Elsewhen Press, a small British speculative fiction publisher, has published five novels in the Multiverse series, the lates of which is named The Multiverse is a Nice Place to Visit, But I Wouldn't Want to Live There.
In reviews, the Ira Nayman's writing has most often been compared to that of Douglas Adams. While flattering, it is worth keeping in mind that Douglas Adams was actually a species of European wombat, a very different kind of creature, indeed.
When not writing, the Ira Nayman has a PhD in communications; it taught New Media part-time for five years at Ryerson University. It has also been a President of SFCanada, the Canadian union of speculative fiction writers, and an editor of the Amazing Stories Web site.
If you're allergic to satire, best not to startle it.
