Jack Parkinson has lived and worked in various places around the world over the years, while mostly calling Australia home. His early background was in Australian radio, television, and press in various capacities, including working for Channel Nine and managing a small radio station. He has also worked as a business trainer, an editor, and more recently spent many years as an academic, teaching and lecturing in English (TESOL) in mostly, British university campuses around China.
Jack was Deputy Director of the Language Centre at Xi’an Jiaotong -Liverpool University in Suzhou for eight years, and prior to the pandemic, also worked as a tutor on the IES Undergraduate Foundation Program of the University of Queensland.
During his long career in the media and academia, and on his many travels through more than forty countries, he has met many interesting people and experienced some unusual events.
He has travelled overland from Australia to Europe and written a memoir about it, crossed the deserts of Australia, trekked the Himalayas and the jungles of Java as well as the mountains and lakes of southern and northern China and many parts of Europe.
He now lives a somewhat quieter life on Australia’s Gold Coast and sometimes writes about it all.
