James M. Doran has researched and collected the recorded music of Erroll Garner for more than fifty years. Doran has served as president of the Erroll Garner Club, and as editor of the Erroll Garner Gems publication. In addition to the original edition of Erroll Garner: The Most Happy Piano (1985), Doran also authored Herman Chittison: A Bio-Discography (1993), and Erroll: The Essential LPs (2020) and has contributed to the Rutgers University Annual Review of Jazz Studies and the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz. Doran is a retired U.S. Air Force pilot and for the last seven years, he has taught middle and high school science.
