Born April 6, 1988, James Strazza is a music producer, songwriter and talented musician who lost his ability to make music or use a computer due to a very severe ME/CFS, an incurable neurological condition.
At the time these poems were written, James had not left his bed for nearly a year. Hypersensitivity to light, sound and cognitive input, such as listening to words or music, have relegated James to living in silence and darkness, cared for by others, and no longer able to experience that which gives most lives meaning. He could no longer look out of a window, watch a film, read a book, or listen to his favorite songs. He could no longer use a computer, play piano or guitar, or draw on his iPad with a stylus.
When disease robbed James of the creative expression that had defined his life and given him meaning - music, songwriting and art - he began writing poetry for the first time, dictating to his phone in brief phrases. He wrote more than 100 poems in less than five months and, with his mother's help, produced his first collection of poetry, "Lyrical."
