Jami Borek retired from a successful career of nearly thirty years as a lawyer, diplomat, and government official for the US Department of State in order to write historical fiction. As a hobby, she also participated in "living history" activities to enhance programs at historic sites and museums in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York.
A lover of mysteries, she was inspired to write Patriots & Poisons, a mystery set in 1797 Philadelphia, when she researched the period for a ball held annually in Alexandria, Virginia to commemorate George Washington's birthday. She became fascinated by the conflicts and challenges facing the United States in its early years. She is also writing a series aimed more at younger readers, beginning with Amanda's Secret and continuing so far with Amelia's Dream. Set in 1770's Virginia, these stories concern the adventures of two young girls living in and around Colonial Williamsburg..
