JOE NALVEN, Ph.D., JD studied philosophy at Columbia College, anthropology at UC San Diego and law at the University of San Diego. He is a recipient of a Rockefeller Postdoctoral Fellowship in Environmental Affairs. He served as the Associate Director of the Institute for Regional Studies of the Californias and the Institute of Chicano Urban Affairs. In addition to his academic and community involvement, he is a visual artist and co-author of Going Digital: The Practice and Vision of Digital Artist. Along the way, he was a NCAA fencing champion.
