John Benacre was born in Beckenham, in the suburbs of London, and then raised in Catford and in the Kent countryside. He served for thirty-five years in the British Army and held every rank from Private soldier in the Parachute Regiment to Lieutenant Colonel in the Intelligence Corps. The majority of that time was spent on Counter-Terrorist duties. He is married to Pauline, an American, and has three adult children.
