In the late 1990s, Joe left the classroom for an assistant principal job in the Bangor Area School District, Bangor, PA. Shortly after the tragic shooting at Columbine High School, his interest in positive and assertive discipline drove his relentless studies into a Doctorate, tying together his research in positive behavior and bullying, and their effects upon school and work environments. His research led to many speaking engagements in state, national, and international conferences.
Following seven years as an administrator in middle and high schools in the East Penn School District, Emmaus, PA, Joe wrote his first book, Phoenixivity. The nickname of Dr. Joe Positive reflects his deep, unwavering passion for public education.
He and his wife Nancy settled in Henderson, NV, in late 2018, after living in San Diego for over 10 years. Before teaching at a school for international students, Shepherd School of Language in Las Vegas, Joe taught writing and leadership courses to international students at San Diego University for Integrative Studies. His wife is a guest teacher in the Clark County Nevada elementary schools. Their interests include reading, traveling, and helping students of all ages find success.
