Kass was born into rural New Zealand in the 1950s and with few close neighbours she spent a lot of time in her own company and in make believe. This was a good grounding for a creative imagination. However, creativity was put aside for a career and for more than 40 years she worked for the New Zealand public service. The last seven years of this career in a publishing unit for one of the country's largest government departments.
She left to take up a long dreamed of career in creative writing and in 2017 published her first book Into Another Dimension. The book is aimed at an 8 to 12 year old audience and has had moderate success with around 200 books sold or distributed to date.
She has two more books in this series (The Hathaways) due for release this year. The first, The Hathaways and the Disappearing Translators, follows on from Into Another Dimension and is part of an overall trilogy.
'I have written a forth book and looking back on each of my books I believe I have grown in my writing with each one. My forth, currently titled The Hathaways and the Moon Keys, is by far and away my personal favourite and I think that this will be well received by its target audience (8 to 12 year olds).'
Kass lives in Nelson, New Zealand with her partner of 26 years and their two furbabies. 'Nelson is a great place to be creative. It has glorious weather and fantastic solitary walks which stimulates the imagination.'
