Kaushay grew up in the Midwest, in a family that valued their rich, multicultural history and culture. Her first foray into authorship, “The Little-Known Heroes” series, was inspired by the stories her grandmother told her about Claudette Colvin. The series originated from Kaushay’s desire to tell the story of Claudette Colvin and grew to encompass heroes from various backgrounds throughout history. Kaushay studied broadcast journalism at Brigham Young University, where she learned her eye for detail, and bringing out people’s experiences to tell their stories. She works by day as a wedding and event planner, telling stories through the events she crafts.
