Keira Morgan—Renaissance Historical Fiction Writer
Originally from Canada, Keira now lives in sunny Mexico with her husband, two cats and one dog. Her fascination with the Renaissance began early with tales of romance and adventure.
At university, she studied Renaissance history to the doctoral level. When she realized she was more fascinated by what could not be proven--the thoughts, feelings, and motivations of the historical people rather than the certainties of when, what, and who, she decided to write historical fiction based on the history rather than the history itself.
Her novels take place in turbulent sixteenth-century France. She tells of powerful women who challenged tradition to play crucial roles in French affairs. Her fiction always begins with the history, and she blogs about the lives of of the people she discovers when researching her fiction. She is collecting their biographies to publish as a book.
She has published three novels so far about the dramatic life of Anne of Brittany who became queen of France twice. The most recent, The Importance of Wives, (May 2024) starts with Anne becoming Duchess of Brittany. The second, The Importance of Sons (June, 2022) tells of her diofficult first marriage to King Charles VIII of France. The last, The Importance of Pawns (April, 2021), tells of the consequences of her children of Anne's early death.
