Prairie View A&M University alumni, Keisha E. Pearson graduated with a journalism degree and taught journalism and English for five years in North Forest ISD before beginning her writing career with A Poetic Journey through Life in 2002. In 2010, she published her first novel, Opening Closed Doors after a five year stint as a developmental English teacher at San Jacinto College and later at Houston Community College. She has also taught adult education at Lone Star College before she wrote this novel while pursuing a graduate degree.
