Lucy A. Warner, Music Department Chair at The Browning School in New York City, is a graduate of the University of Texas (Austin), and Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY). She studied music education, music history and theory, voice, piano, and harpsichord.
Ms. Warner began teaching in San Antonio, Texas and won the Teacher of the Year award at Wilshire Elementary School in her third year. Broadening her experience, Ms. Warner taught for a year at inner-city schools in Richmond, VA. She continued her education, achieving her master’s degree in music history and performance practices at the Eastman School of Music.
Preparing to bring fruits of the musical world to students, Ms. Warner learned to play guitar and embarked on a career of performing, composing, and touring. Her musical styles included Broadway, pop, rock, country, ethnic, swing . . .
Ms. Warner brought her professional experiences to The Browning School in New York City in 2001, where she has taught music to elementary school students for over fifteen years. ZAP! BOOM! POW! grows out of the popularity of the Composer of the Month program which Ms. Warner initiated in the classroom. Seeing how children are energized as they learn about the lives and musical achievements of the world’s most famous musicians – from Bach to Stevie Wonder, to today’s brightest stars – Ms. Warner was inspired to present twelve classical composers in her first book – while adding a surprising, new dimension.
