Maryann Lucas received her M.A. from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and her B.A. from Georgetown University. For a time, she worked as a producer for CBS News in New York City and later, as an on-air reporter/anchor for WCAX-TV in Vermont. Today, Lucas works as an oil painter and exhibits in several fine art galleries. She is the mother of two adult daughters.
Lucas says that she lives in pursuit of making beautiful things, and that her first call to cultivate beauty came years ago when she was a stay-at-home mom. Preserving and nurturing her children's innate and beautiful spirits became job one for her, and she needed help with that. Fortunately, she says, there were many books available about conscious parenting and raising a whole child. She immersed herself, to her own betterment and the benefit of her children. Today, Lucas is an oil painter and often works outside. It's where she basks in nature's beauty and translates it with color and brush. Most days, she says it's heaven on earth. Seven Circles of Light: How They Were Born and What They Became is Lucas's first children's book, and is the natural culmination of these broader experiences. In it, she has paired loving and nurturing words with delightful pictures to create a beautiful story for children that encourages them to find happiness by following their innate desires, to find comfort in kindred spirits and to remember the magical and restorative power of nature.
