Dr. Michelle Yunjung You was born in the fall of 1979 in Seoul, Korea and grew up there. She spent her childhood years experiencing the Korean education system that is well known for being highly competitive and went on to study at the prestigious Ewha Womans University for her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, she worked as an elementary school teacher in Seoul. Right after getting married, she moved to the US and lived in West Lafayette, Indiana for about 9 years where she studied at Purdue University to earn her Master's degree in Gifted Education and Ph.D. in Second Language Studies. Moving to Mankato, Minnesota, she worked as a faculty member in the English Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato for a year.
During her travels between Korea and the US, she gained insight in comparing the differences in their education systems. While she was studying and working as a doctoral student, a question came to her mind: "Why are there not any good math workbooks in the US both for kids and their parents?" She was so busy and wanted a math workbook that had a good curriculum and plan of study so that she could just give it to her children without any extra effort. However, she couldn't find any good workbooks and eventually ended up developing workbook sheets for her kids everyday on her own based on her knowledge and experience in the fields of Elementary Education and Gifted Education. That is how "Tiger Math" was born.
"Tiger Math" is a Self-guided Math Tutoring Series which aims at kids achieving calculation ability, math confidence, and good study habits to learn math on a daily basis. With "Tiger Math", Dr. Michelle You wants to spread her belief to all children and their parents around the world: "Anybody can make it as long as they have a dream and practice every day. Dream. Do. Math."
