New Author Rhonda Copeland Lyle: Warrior Mom: How I Fought to Get the Best Education and Scholarships for my Children and Others
Parents everywhere will do well to pay attention to the new book by Rhonda Copeland Lyle, Warrior Mom: How I Fought To Get A Great Education and Scholarships for my Children and Others ($10M Won!)
Rhonda is the mother of three adult children. As the children entered their early school years in Virginia, Rhonda discovered the importance of advocacy on behalf of her son and two daughters. By respectfully forming working relationships with teachers and maintaining oversight of the children’s extracurricular activities, she was able to expose them to numerous fun and educational activities nationally and abroad. She understood that learning is easy when it’s also interesting and enjoyable. This in turn led them to unexpected and rewarding opportunities that in turn piggybacked, one on another, to reveal heretofore unknown programs with abundant benefits.
But that’s not the Warrior Mom’s most impressive achievement. She learned about scholarship programs that covered everything from paid summer camp to travel abroad, and Congressional internships to full ride college scholarships. Along the way, Rhonda shared her boundless energy and burgeoning knowledge about educational opportunities with other parents, helping them to see possibilities for their children they might not otherwise have considered, or worse—would have considered them out of reach altogether. This was especially true for minority and disabled students, for whom the Warrior Mom opened important doors.
Learning as she progressed over the years, Rhonda has helped many students and their families successfully apply for and be awarded approximately $10M in scholarship monies. For the Warrior Mom, it has been especially satisfying to see this progress for students and families who might not otherwise have known their children could be eligible for both the funds and the opportunities.
Rhonda shares the strategies for helping a son or daughter get a superior education at no cost or low-cost, travel abroad for study or enrichment, or snag a summer job/internship working at Homeland Security and the Library of Congress or in local organizations. Warrior Mom also shares a generous list of programs and scholarships aimed at minorities or disabled students who might otherwise have difficulty gaining entrance on their own. There are even programs that cater to students with low GPAs, alternate ways to get college credit and free college.
With her children now grown, today Rhonda devotes her time to assisting other students and families by sharing her extensive experience to help as many students as possible reach their academic potential. In her book she also shares some of these amazing programs, scholarships and awards that appeal to many different interests and abilities. Since money doesn’t grow on trees, it makes abundant sense to investigate how families might stretch hard-earned dollars to benefit from the amazing programs Rhonda explains in her book. And one thing to remember, as a true advocate and activist for her children and others, Rhonda proudly wears the title of Warrior Mom and Activist Mom!
