Ricko Donovan is a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter whose blend of music has been termed Americeltic. Donovan blends tunes on the hammered dulcimer, guitar, and mandolin with songs, occasionally utilizing a sound loop technique for a big sound. “He renders Irish ballads,” said The Clare Champion, “with the greatest sensitivity and the rest with the reckless abandon of a steamrolling train with no brakes.” After several years in Ireland, he returned to Nashville Tennessee and toured all across the country. An award-winning songwriter, Donovan’s Devil At My Door won the 1998 Nashville Spree Songwriters Contest in the Alt Country category. He has four albums to his credit. The Laughing Silver Stringand Full On both feature traditional Irish music, while The Kilmoon Road and Lucky Sevens reveal his songwriting and composition. The Muse's Muse said of Lucky Sevens, "Donovan plays a swirl of strings that enchant and delight. His songwriting is literate, observational and very entertaining." He has also published two novels. Nashville Lifestyles Magazine called his novel Sunnyville, "a delightful, engaging read that allows you to fully appreciate everything good in your life, body, and soul.” The sequel, Sun of Sunnyville is slated for release in November 2024. Donovan relocated to Hot Springs Arkansas in 2019, where he remains a staple in the local folk music scene.
