I was born on March 15th, 1976, and raised in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, Arnprior Ontario. With an apparent aptitude for creative writing, and encouraged by friends and teachers, I enrolled in the Television Broadcasting program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, graduating in 1997. With little success in television and a parade of unstable jobs, I eventually landed in a permanent, unstable, office job. It’s a paycheque but I’m not passionate about the work. I am motivated by movies, music, curiosity and fun; I am a novice painter, a juggler and collector of action figures. My first novel, Big Bad Wolves, was born out of an eclectic mix of influences. The fantasy films of my childhood like ‘NeverEnding Story’, ‘Labyrinth’ and ‘The Time Bandits’; the writings of Douglas Adams had a profound impact on my sense of humor, I devoured The Hitchhiker’s Guide series faster than anything I’ve ever read. The works of Michael Crichton and Stephen King have such a vivid, cinematic quality, I can only aspire to make my readers experience a work as well as they do. Lastly, eastern philosophy, in particular, the writing and lectures of Alan Watts, really opened my mind and stirred up the creative impulses that had lay dormant. I realized the permanence I was looking for was never really there; that fear had made a majority of the choices in my life for me; and that there was no valid reason not to pursue my flights of fancy. I feel like my novel would appeal to young and old readers a like, either as a cautionary tale to never give up or as a message to others that it’s never too late.
